Guwahati:
A senior police officer in Assam, who was part of a special investigation team in Manipur and was hugely popular on social media, has resigned to pursue “freedom” and “independence”.
A dynamic IPS officer from Assam-Meghalaya cadres, Anand Mishra, was recently posted to Manipur to be part of the SIT investigating the violence in the state. The officer is a social media sensation, dubbed “Assam's Singham” by users.
In his resignation letter, Misra said he was resigning to pursue a life of “freedom” and “independence.”
Before being posted to Manipur, Mr. Misra was posted as a Superintendent of Police (SP) in Lakhimpur district of Assam.
In a letter to the Chief Secretary of the Government of Assam, Anand Mishra mentioned “social and personal goals in life”.
“I hereby tender my unconditional resignation from the IPS so that I may pursue a life of freedom and independence that I intend to achieve through various social services and other means outside the mandate of the IPS,” he wrote.
Sources, however, indicated that Mr Misra is likely to join the BJP in his home state of Bihar and could even contest the general elections next year.
