New Delhi:
BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri on Thursday expressed regret for his objectionable remarks against BSP's Danish Ali at a meeting of the Lok Sabha Privileges Committee, where both leaders were heard separately.
Sources said that Mr Bidhuri in his statement before the committee noted that senior BJP leader and Union minister Rajnath Singh had expressed regret in the House for his comments on September 21 when he was speaking during a discussion on the success of Chandrayaan-3. mission.
Mr Bidhuri used a number of offensive comments to attack Ali, who was accused by several BJP leaders of using derogatory words against Prime Minister Narendra Modi to provoke the South Delhi MP.
When an argument broke out in the House of Representatives, Mr Singh stood up to express his regret. “I regret if the Opposition is hurt by the member's comments,” the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives in Lok Sabha said.
With Mr Bidhuri expressing his regret, the committee is likely to close the matter and send its report to the speaker, sources said.
BJP president JP Nadda had also issued a show-cause notice to Mr Bidhuri, known for his fiery comments that have sometimes led to controversies.
While Mr Ali and several other opposition members wrote to Speaker Om Birla for taking action against Mr Bidhuri, and quite a few BJP members accused the BSP MP of making running comments during his speech and using derogatory words to the Prime Minister, the Chairman sent a notice of complaints from both parties to the Privileges Committee.
Mr Ali also appeared before the committee and spoke in detail about the incident, sources said. He rejected the allegation that he had made insulting remarks against Prime Minister Modi.
