Aizawl:
The charred bodies of three Mizoram residents, including a woman, were found in a jungle in Myanmar near the international border, a senior police officer said on Friday.
The three went missing on March 19 after leaving for Myanmar from Ainak village in Siaha district.
They were held hostage by a number of people, believed to be from Myanmar, who were once involved with a rebel group before breaking away from it, Inspector General of Police (Law & Order) Lalbiakthanga Khiangte told PTI.
They apparently killed the three for not fully returning the money intended to buy guns, the police officer said.
The charred bodies were recovered on Thursday in a forest in Myanmar about two kilometers from the international border, he said.
“The perpetrators of the crime are believed to be from Myanmar. State police have launched a manhunt for the suspects,” Khiangte said.
Mizoram shares a 510 km long international border with Myanmar.
