New Delhi:
A 14-year-old girl allegedly beat her mother to death with a frying pan after she was verbally abused for not washing the dishes, Noida police said.
The teen is being charged under Section 304 – culpable homicide that does not amount to murder. She has been sent to a correctional facility.
On Sunday evening, the girl called her neighbors at her apartment on the 14th floor in Sector 77 of Noida, saying that her mother had been injured. The woman’s bloodied body was found with head injuries. Neighbors took her to hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The woman was in her mid-30s and worked in the sourcing department of a company in Greater Noida. She lived with her daughter and was divorced from her husband within five years of marriage, police said.
Senior police officer Ranvijay Singh said: “The woman had asked her daughter to wash kitchen utensils. When the teenager didn’t, she called her names, which led to an argument and the girl reportedly continued to hit her on the head with a frying pan. “
The officer said the girl initially told police that she had returned from a walk and found her mother in a pool of blood.
But when police questioned neighbors and scanned images from CCTV cameras in the apartment complex, they found no sign of an outsider entering the apartment.
When questioned further, the teen admitted to beating her mother to death, police said.
The woman’s brother filed a police report against his niece, on the basis of which the FIR was filed. Police also recovered the frying pan used in the crime.
