The residents of Kolkata, especially those living in the New Town area, are likely to soon have various goods such as medicines, groceries and food delivered to their homes using drones as a Delhi-based logistics solutions provider plans such a project plant. move with the help of local authorities.
Captain Eshaan Khullar, the vice president of Skye Air Mobility Pvt Ltd, said the company has already signed agreements with 10 to 12 housing societies in New Town for the service as drones will help reduce the time taken in conventional ways of delivering goods to deliver.

“We want to start with New Town and then move to Salt Lake and other parts of Kolkata, besides going to the rural parts where connectivity is an issue, where going from point A to point B is an issue,” Mr Khullar told to PTI. the sidelines of a presentation program.
He also said that the company is looking forward to working with various authorities such as the New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA) to enable drone deliveries in housing societies in Kolkata and West Bengal.
“Collaborations with societies are needed to create infrastructure. We are creating skypods where we drop the parcels. These are like mailboxes that are placed in every society,” Mr Khullar said.
“The drone service can be very useful for transporting pathology test samples, delivering life-saving medicines. This will be very helpful when every minute counts,” said NKDA Chairman Debasish Sen after attending the presentation program on Wednesday.
He said that for various medical reasons, police often need to create a green corridor so that a patient or a product can reach its destination quickly.
Mr Khullar said the company hopes to start delivering in New Town within two to three months and full-fledged operations are likely to commence within six months.
However, orders for drone delivery must be made through food aggregators and e-commerce sites with which the company has a tie-up.
Drones are used with the permission of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and its associated agencies, he said.
The company said its drones are designed to deliver packages weighing from 500 grams to 50 kg.
The company focuses on streamlining drone deliveries as a mainstream logistics solution for healthcare, e-commerce, high-speed commerce, agricultural commodities and other industries, Mr. Khullar said.
The company said it also previously operated the world’s longest BVLOS (Beyond Visual Line of Sight) drug delivery flight with Flipkart Health, covering 104 km between Baruipur and Medinipur in West Bengal, reducing delivery time by 80 percent compared to conventional resources.
