New Delhi:
Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal on Monday took a swipe at the BJP over NCP leader Ajit Pawar and eight others inducted into the Eknath Shinde-led government in Maharashtra, saying “first attack the corrupt and then embrace them” .
Ajit Pawar sparked a stunning uprising in the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Sunday, sparking a vertical split, and joined Maharashtra’s ruling Shiv Sena-BJP alliance to become deputy chief minister.
In a tweet, Mr Sibal said: “First attack the corrupt, then embrace the corrupt. First guarantee their investigation, then get a guarantee for their support. Investigation suspended. Henceforth ED, CBI: no suspense. Sounds familiar? Mother of democracy at work!” In a sudden turn of events that ended weeks of speculation about the senior NCP leader’s next political move and came as a shock to his uncle Sharad Pawar, Ajit Pawar was sworn in as deputy chief minister by Governor Ramesh Bais at a ceremony in the Raj Bhawan in Mumbai on Sunday.
Eight other NCP leaders, some of whom are close aides to Sharad Pawar, the 83-year-old Maratha strongman who hopes to become a key player in an anti-BJP front, were sworn in as ministers in the Shinde-government. Fadnavis.
Kapil Sibal had hit Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday over the Ajit Pawar uprising, likely saying that this is “the mother of democracy” that Prime Minister Modi spoke about in his address to the US Congress.
