The flood situation in Assam on Wednesday has slightly worsened as nearly 1.20 lakh people in 20 districts have been affected by the deluge.
According to the reports of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), after torrential rains in Assam, other neighboring states and the neighboring country of Bhutan, the water level of several rivers is above the danger limit and new areas are being flooded.
The water level of Beki River flows above the danger level at Road Bridge, Pagladiya at Nt Road Crossing and Puthimari River at Nh Road Crossing.
780 villages among 45 revenue villages of Bajali, Baksa, Barpeta, Biswanath, Chirang, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dhubri, Dibrugarh, Golaghat, Hojai, Kamrup, Kokrajhar, Lakhimpur, Nagaon, Nalbari, Sonitpur, Tamulpur, Udalguri districts are affected by floods and urban floods have also been reported in Bajali, Darrang, Kamrup (Metro), Kokrajhar and Nalbari districts.
The ASDMA flood report said, “44,707 people were affected in Nalbari district alone, followed by 26,571 people in Baksa, 25,096 people in Lakhimpur, 15,610 people in Tamulpur and 3,840 people in Barpeta district.”
The district administration has set up 14 relief camps and 17 distribution centers and a total of 2091 people have taken refuge in relief camps in Baksa, Dhubri, Kokrajhar, Nalbari and Tamulpur districts.
More than 1.07 lakh domestic animals and poultry have also been affected in the first flood in the flood affected districts.
The NDRF, SDRF and Fire & Emergency Services are also involved in rescue operations on Wednesday, evacuating 1,280 people from flooded areas.
The floodwaters on Wednesday damaged 4 dikes, 72 roads and 7 bridges.
