Bangalore:
External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar on Monday said there is no need to worry about the Congress election manifesto as it will become just a piece of paper with no relevance after the BJP declares victory in the coming Lok Sabha elections have been booked.
The Union minister said this while answering a question on Congress's claims that “if the BJP gets 400 seats, it will change the Constitution”.
EAM Jaishankar said it was a matter of luck that the Congress agreed to allow the BJP to cross 400 seats this time.
“We will use those 400 to move the country forward. When you see the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government in more than 400 seats, you will see that we are serving the people of India more,” S. Jaishankar said.
“From Jawaharlal Nehru to Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister is the leader of the country. How can you say (referring to Rahul Gandhi) that you will not accept a leader? Rahul Gandhi had no respect for former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during the UPA regime. Do you think you are bigger than the Prime Minister as the party is a family business?” the Union minister asked.
Speaking about the BJP's hopes in South India in the upcoming elections, EAM Jaishankar stated that his party is “genuinely optimistic”.
“The kind of response Prime Minister Modi is getting from the public in Tamil Nadu and Kerala is phenomenal. We were in a good position in Karnataka, and have gained good traction in Telangana as well.
“The most important thing is that we seek votes from the southern states not only for the manifesto, but also for our ten-year track record and our achievements. We have provided food, electricity, water, infrastructure and education. If you look at our record You will strengthen our hands as we have greater things to do for the nation. The people of these states are very much a part of everything that has happened in the last ten years,” said EAM Jaishankar.
He further said, “These elections are extremely important. We have a ten-year base. We plan to do something very big in the third term.”
