Kurnool (Andhra Pradesh):
Amid the ongoing debate between the BJP and opposition leaders over reservation and minority quota, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy said that 4 percent Muslim reservations “will continue to exist” and that this is the “last word ” of the YSR Congress Party about this.
Addressing a public meeting in Kurnool, he said, “On one hand, Chandrababu Naidu continues to join hands with the BJP, which is committed to abolishing the 4 percent Muslim reservation. On the other hand, to gain minority votes, he comes up with new ideas. drama. Have you witnessed a chameleon-like Chandrababu Naidu? Whatever happens, 4 percent Muslim reservations will remain and that is the final word of the YSR Congress Party. My only question to Chandrababu Naidu is why is he continuing the alliance with the NDA party even after the NDA government has promised to cancel the 4 percent reservation?”
Commenting on the ongoing Lok Sabha election battle, Mr. Reddy said, “Within the next four days, the battle for Kurukshetra will take place. These elections are not meant to elect MLAs and MPs, these elections will decide the future of the ongoing plans and development of each household. If you vote for Chandrababu Naidu, you will stop all the prosperity that this government has brought at the doorstep of the household.
Criticizing Chandrababu Naidu, he said, “Chandrababu Naidu has been boasting of being the CM for 14 years – for a three-year term. Does any poor person remember the prosperity this man has brought to the state? We have brought prosperity without religion discriminate against, caste, community or other party members.”
Earlier, RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav's comments on Muslim reservations had created a storm and attracted criticism from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“Muslims should be given reservation (reservation toh milna chahiye Musalmano ko, pura'…),” Mr Yadav said.
However, the RJD chief later clarified that he was in favor of extending reservation benefits to Muslims but emphasized that this should be “based on social backwardness and not on religion.”
“I have implemented the 'Mandal Commission'. Reservation samajik adhar par hota hai dharmik aadhar par nahi hota hai (It is based on social backwardness and not based on religion). Atal Bihari Vajpayee constituted the Constitution Review Commission,” said Lalu Yadav.
