Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday attacked the BJP for its ongoing anti-infringement drive in Jammu and Kashmir, saying the Union Territory wanted work, better business and love, but got the “BJP’s bulldozer” instead.
Major political parties such as Congress, the National Conference and the PDP have expressed concern over the action and demanded an immediate end.
The authorities have so far recovered more than 10 lakh kanals (one kanal = 605 square meters) of land in Jammu and Kashmir after Commissioner Secretary, Taxation Department, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri ordered all deputy commissioners to ensure that encroachments of the state land on January 7.
In a tweet in Hindi, Mr Gandhi said, “Jammu and Kashmir wanted work, better business and love, but what did they get? BJP’s Bulldozer!” The land that the people have cherished with their hard work for decades is being snatched from them, the former congressional chief said.
“Peace and Kashmiriyat will be protected by uniting people, not dividing people,” he said.
Mr. Gandhi also tagged a media report claiming that the eviction had caused panic in Jammu and Kashmir.
