A newlywed and his brother died Monday after a home theater music system he received as a wedding gift exploded as soon as it was plugged in. Four others were seriously injured in the blast.
The home theater, it turns out, was rigged with explosives and was a gift from the bride’s ex-boyfriend, according to police inquiries. The incident took place in Kabirdham district of Chhattisgarh.
The impact of the explosion caused the walls and roof of the room where the home theater system was located to collapse. Police said when the groom, identified as 22-year-old Hemendra Merawi, turned on the home theater system after connecting the wire to an electrical tape, there was a huge explosion, leading to the death of Mr Merawi on the spot. His brother, on the other hand, succumbed during treatment.

During a police investigation, it was found that the blast occurred because someone had planted explosives in the home theater system. Later, when the police began to investigate the list of gifts received during the marriage, they discovered that the music system was a gift from the bride’s ex-lover.
The police identified the suspect as Sarju and later arrested him. Manisha Thakur, Kabirdham Deputy Superintendent of Police, said the suspect accepted during questioning that he was angry at his ex-girlfriend for getting married, so he gifted her the home theater system containing explosives.
According to the police, Hemendra Merawi got married on April 1. His brother Rajkumar, 30, and four others, including a one-and-a-half-year-old boy, sustained injuries and were taken to Kawradha District Hospital. However, Mr. Rajkumar succumbed during treatment. The others are being treated in hospital.
