Imphal:
The BJP could become the largest party in the Manipur assembly, election trends suggest. However, the party is still not coming for the majority of 31. Meanwhile, BJP’s Chief Minister N Biren Singh has won the Heingang seat with about 18,000 seats.
The vote counting for the 2022 assembly elections in Manipur, which will be held in two phases, started at 8 am. The election results will be announced today.
The turnout for the election for the 60-seat Manipur assembly, which was held on February 28 and March 5, was 78.03 percent and 76.04 percent. The election polls will decide the electoral fate of 92 candidates.
This time, the BJP decided to go solo and fought for all 60 seats alone. On the other hand, Congress formed an alliance of six political parties including Congress, CPI, CPI(M), Forward Bloc, Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) and Janata Dal (Secular).
An exit poll poll predicts that the BJP will emerge as the largest party in Manipur. But exit polls don’t always get it right.
Congress was the largest party in the 2017 elections, winning 28 seats, followed by BJP (21). But later, the BJP formed a coalition with the NPP, NPF and LJP to form the government.
