An MBBS student who appeared in place of a NEET aspirant in the medical entrance exam on Sunday was detained along with five others, including the candidate, in Bharatpur in Rajasthan, police said.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Abhishek Gupta, a student of the government university, was part of a racket run by his fellow student Ravi Meena, who had allegedly taken Rs 10 lakh from candidate Rahul Gurjar, they said.
“In a research center, Abhishek was found posing as Rahul Gurjar. When suspected, the invigilator handed him over to the police. During the initial interrogation, he told the police that he was accompanied by five others,” said Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Aklesh Kumar. said.
He said his associates were sitting in a car outside the examination centre, Master Adityendra School under Mathura Gate police station. All suspects are being questioned and further action will be taken in due course, the ASP said.
Besides Gupta, Meena and Gurjar, the arrested persons were identified as Amit, Dayaram and Suraj Singh, according to police.
