A single court RI Chagla presided over the hearing of a defamation suit filed by the 48-year-old actor seeking Rs 100 crore damages from his brother for posting alleged defamatory statements against him on social media.
The bank instructed the brothers to remain in its chambers with their lawyers on May 3 to explore the possibility of an amicable settlement.
The lawsuit also names the actor’s ex-wife Zainab, but on Wednesday, Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s lawyer Abhinav Chandrachud told the court that as the former couple tried to resolve their issues amicably, the actor defamation case against her did not want to continue.

The court agreed, saying that any settlement will require the relevant posts to be removed and that both brothers will refrain from posting any further comments against each other on social media.
“In view of settlement talks, there will be no (social media) posts against each other, there will be no slander against each other, in view of the possibility of an amicable settlement. It is to maintain equality between parties so that there are no messages more against each other,” Judge Chagla said.
Meanwhile, a division bench of judges Revati Mohite Dere and Sharmila Deshmukh was informed on Wednesday that the disagreement between the ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ actor and his ex-wife Zainab over the parenting of their two minor children has been resolved.
The court was told that the children would travel back to Dubai to attend their school.
