Bombay:
Hours after NCP leader Ajit Pawar took oath as deputy chief minister in Eknath Shinde’s government, the party’s working president and his cousin Supriya Sule said on Sunday that developments in the party will not affect opposition unity .
Supriya Sule, addressing a late-night press conference in Mumbai, said her father and leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Sharad Pawar, will gain even more prestige.
“Our credibility will only grow after this,” she said.
She also said that Ajit Pawar may have different views but she can never fight with her elder brother and she will always love him like a sister.
Ajit Pawar joined the Shiv Sena BJP government in Maharashtra on Sunday as deputy chief minister, while eight other party leaders were inducted as ministers.
Supriya Sule, whose appointment as party chairman allegedly sparked Ajit Pawar’s uprising last month, said that since 2019 when he first joined the short-lived government led by Devendra Fadnavis until 2023, she has matured much with the responsibility of the party .
She said she will not mix personal and professional relationships.
“I can never get into a fight with my brother,” she said.
“I’m boring, steady and not impulsive…Emotional relationships and professional work are two different things. I will never combine the two,” she said.
When asked how her day was given the hectic political developments, Supriya Sule said that like many other days it was a challenging day.
When asked about what happened at the meeting at ‘Devgiri’, Ajit Pawar’s official residence in Mumbai in the morning, Supriya Sule said that what has been discussed between her and her brother will remain only between them.
The Baramati MP said that the party will work with renewed vigor to strengthen the organization and the well-being of the state and the country.
When asked if there would be disciplinary action against those who joined the government, she said: “Let the story unfold. It hasn’t been 12 hours yet.” Nationalist Congress Party senior leader Ajit Pawar met some party leaders and MLAs at his official residence in Mumbai on Sunday.
Supriya Sule said Ajit Pawar may have different views. “We’re both mature enough to compartmentalize our lives personally and professionally,” she said.
“No one knows how many MLAs there are with Ajit Pawar,” said Supriya Sule.
When asked if she spoke to any of them, she said, “I talk to them every time. Every MLA from NCP is precious. We have love, affection and respect. We have lived like a family,” she said.
