Union Minister Jitendra Singh claimed on Saturday that the Narendra Modi-led government does not interfere in the CBI’s affairs and said on Saturday that the Supreme Court had pointed out during the UPA regime that the CBI was a “parrot in a cage”.
Mr. Singh answered a question to get his response on the fact that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has subpoenaed the former governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Satya Pal Malik, in connection with an alleged insurance scam.
Mr Singh told reporters after a BJP program, “The CBI is an autonomous institution. Let it conduct its investigations. No one can interfere.” The Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government does not interfere in the affairs of the CBI, he added.
Asked about his reaction to Congress leader KC Venugopal’s tweet about central agencies being the BJP’s “lapdog”, Mr Singh said, “He still carries the mindset that was there during the Congress.” said that during the UPA regime, the Supreme Court said the CBI was a parrot in a cage.
“After 2014, the situation has changed. In Modi ji’s government, there is no interference in the function of the CBI. They are given full independence,” Singh said.
