New Delhi:
The Center on Tuesday ordered the withdrawal of restrictions under Phase III of GRAP across the NCR with immediate effect following improvement in air quality.
The Commission for Air Quality Management in the National Capital Region and Adjacent Areas (CAQM), a statutory body responsible for formulating strategies to combat pollution in the region, met on Tuesday with a view to significantly improving overall air quality from Delhi-NCR.
The air quality forecasts from the India Meteorological Department/Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology do not indicate that Delhi’s average air quality will shift to the ‘severe’ category in the coming days for which forecasts are available, the CAQM said.
The Centre’s pollution control panel had on November 2 invoked the Phase III restrictions, putting a stop to non-essential construction, rock crushing and mining in Delhi-NCR. In this phase, restrictions were also imposed on the operation of BS III petrol and BS IV diesel four-wheelers in Delhi, Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad and Gautam Budh Nagar.
The city’s 24-hour average AQI, recorded at 4pm every day, improved from 395 on Monday to 312 on Tuesday.
