New Delhi:
A 13-year-old girl and his younger brother were found dead at their father's grocery store in northwest Delhi's Keshav Puram area on Saturday, police said.
The children's father Manish, who is suspected of killing the two siblings, is on the run and efforts are on to nab him, they said. According to police, a call about the incident was received around 7:15 p.m.
Manish's wife told police that both children had gone to school but had not returned home. At first, she thought they were with their father because he often picked them up from school, they said.
“She tried to contact Manish but his mobile phone was not reachable. When other family members opened the shutters of their shop in the evening, they found the two siblings in an unconscious condition inside,” an officer said.
They were taken to hospital where doctors declared them dead, he said, adding that their school bags were also in the shop, located on the ground floor of their house.
According to a police officer, Manish is suspected to have killed his children by feeding them a poisonous substance or by suffocating them.
“The case is being investigated from all possible angles and the bodies have been sent for post-mortem,” the officer said, adding that the actual cause of death will be determined only after the report is out.
During the investigation, it was found that Manish was upset over a financial issue but further investigation is underway. The statements of the family members have been recorded, police said.
CCTV footage in the area is being scanned and teams have been formed to locate Manish, police said.
