New Delhi:
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's wife Sunita Kejriwal will not be able to meet him at the Tihar jail on Monday. Jail authorities have denied permission for the planned visit, claims Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party.
Sources said the Tihar Jail administration has cited the visit of Minister Atishi from Delhi, who will meet the Chief Minister on Monday.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann will meet him on Tuesday.
Sources said prison rules say two people can meet an incarcerated person at a time.
When Mr Mann went to meet Mr Kejriwal at Tihar Jail on April 15, Sandeep Pathak, general secretary of AAP, accompanied him.
Sources in Tihar Jail said after the meeting with Atishi and Bhagwant Mann that Sunita Kejriwal would be allowed to meet Mr Kejriwal after Tuesday.
However, according to prison rules, only two visits are allowed per week. So if Atishi meets Arvind Kejriwal on Monday and Bhagwant Mann meets him on Tuesday, then there cannot be another meeting with Arvind Kejriwal this week.
Sunita Kejriwal may not be allowed to meet him until next week.
Mr Kejriwal has been in jail since April 1. He was arrested on March 21 in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case.
His stay in Tihar was marked by a huge row over his diabetes and medicines, with the chief minister and his party claiming that authorities had withheld medicines since his arrest. The Enforcement Directorate has alleged that Mr Kejriwal has eaten food that is not suitable for diabetics.
On Saturday, Sunita Kejriwal led her maiden roadshow in Delhi, where she was campaigning for the Lok Sabha elections. The massive roadshow was held in support of the AAP candidate in East Delhi. The party is contesting four of Delhi's seven constituencies. Congress will contest the other three.
In Kejriwal's absence, she is expected to lead the party's campaign in Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Gujarat.
