A young man purposefully sprints down a road in Noida at midnight, in a video that was viewed thousands of times within minutes of being posted on social media Sunday night. Despite being drenched in sweat, the runner, in a mind-boggling move, repeatedly declines filmmaker and author Vinod Kapri’s offer to give him a ride home.
Calling the boy’s reasons for politely declining a lift “pure gold,” the filmmaker describes his interaction with 19-year-old Pradeep Mehra in an inspiring clip, as he manages to gradually impress Mr. Kapri with each one. new piece of information he reveals about his decision to run 10km in the middle of the night.
In the video, Mr. Kapri films from his car as it drives next to the young man, who says he is running home from work after his shift at a McDonald’s. Despite being offered a ride, Mr. Mehra insists that he would rather run home because otherwise he will not have time to run.
When prodded further as to why he’s running at all at this late hour, he replies, “To join the military.”
Mr. Kapri again offers to drop the boy off and tells him to run in the morning, but Mr. Mehra informs him that then he will not have time to train as he has to wake up at 8am every day to cook food for work.
Originally from Uttarakhand, Mr. Mehra runs a 10 km daily run from his job in Noida’s Sector 16 to his home in Barola where he lives with his brother.
When asked where his parents are, the boy tells Mr. Kapri that his mother, who is unwell, has been hospitalized.

Mr. Kapri, who is still keeping up with Mr. Mehra, tells him that this clip will go viral.
“Who’s going to recognize me?” the runner laughs in response. “If it goes viral, it’s okay, it’s not like I’m doing anything wrong.”
When told that after the strenuous sprint back from Mr. Mehra, he still plans to cook afterward, Mr. Kapri says, “Come, eat with me.”
“No, but my older brother will be hungry then,” replies Mr. Mehra, again refusing the filmmaker’s help, adding that his brother is on a night shift at work and cannot cook for himself at the moment.
“Pradeep, you are amazing,” Mr. Kapri responds in awe.
“Please let me take you home,” he adds, in a last ditch effort to make Mr. Mehra change his mind.
“No no, I’m going in a minute, otherwise my running will be ruined. This is my daily routine,” says the determined 19-year-old, as he stands back laughing again.
Finally, he wishes the boy all the best and Mr. Kapri’s video ends with the caption, “Pradeep’s story will inspire millions.”
Within three hours, the video has racked up more than seven lakh views on Twitter and surpassed 22,000 retweets, with attention quickly growing on the clip as commentators respect Pradeep Mehra’s unwavering determination and can-do attitude to undeniably difficult circumstances. .
