Kannur:
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said on Monday that the government will not tolerate officials who damage the image of the state police and warned against strict action.
He also said the police fired those who damaged the department’s reputation.
The chief minister was speaking after the opening of several infrastructure projects related to the police in northern Kerala. At an event in Kelakam in Kannur district, Vijayan inaugurated 18 such projects.
“The police have cracked down and fired those who tarnished the image of the police,” said Vijayan, who also holds the home portfolio.
Addressing the meeting, he said that the infrastructure development for the force was done keeping in mind the need for a better workplace.
He said the left-wing government has taken several steps to ensure that all police stations in the state are women-friendly.
He also praised the police’s “dedication” during the pandemic and other natural disasters.
Vijayan said more educated youth are now joining the police force.
“More and more highly educated young people are joining the police today. We are now among the best police forces in the country,” he said.
Sunny Joseph MLA, Chief of State Police Anilkant and other dignitaries participated in the event.
