Bombay:
A 50-year-old woman was arrested by cyber police on Tuesday for allegedly posting insulting and vulgar comments on the Facebook page of Amruta Fadnavis, Maharashtra’s wife, Devendra Fadnavis, deputy chief minister.
Smruti Panchal, the woman arrested, is said to have posted offensive content on Amruta Fadnavis’ official social media page in the past two years using multiple fake accounts, police said.
Ms. Panchal had allegedly created 53 fake Facebook IDs and 13 Gmail accounts, an official said.
A court here has placed her in police custody until Thursday, he said, adding that police were investigating her motives.
Ms. Panchal has been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code including 419 (fraud by personification), 468 (counterfeiting for the purpose of cheating) and sections of the Information Technology Act.
