Every year Jitiya Vrat is celebrated during the Ashtami Tithi of Krishna Paksha of Ashwini month. On this day, mothers observe the Jritiya fast for the happiness and long life of their children. This year it will be celebrated on October 6. It is believed that this fast also brings glory to the parents as their children become more intelligent and live longer lives.
On this day, Gandharva king-Jimutavahana is worshiped and the story of Jitiya Vrat is heard. King Jimutavahana is believed to have protected the sons of Nagamata from the bird king Gurud. Due to this, mothers pray to Jimutavahan during Jitiya Vrat for the safety of their children.
According to astrologer Dr. Krishna Kumar Bhargava, who hails from Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, will start Jitiya Vrat this year at 6:24 am on October 6 (Friday) and end at 8:08 am on October 7 (Saturday).
According to the Mahavir Panchang of Kashi, Ashtami Tithi will begin at 9:25 am on Friday, October 6 and will continue until 10:21 am on Saturday, October 7. According to Mithila Unversity Panchang, Ashtami Tithi will start from 9:35 am on October 6 to 10:32 am on October 7.
Women can start and end their fast based on these dates and times. After the end of Ashtami Tithi, the mothers will perform Parana. According to the famous Acharya Bajrang Maharaj of Patna, the auspicious time of Parana is on October 7 after 10:32 am.
This year, on the day of Jitiya Vrat, according to astrologer Dr. Krishna Kumar Bhargava also formed Sarvartha Siddhi Yoga and Parigha Yoga. Sarvartha Siddhi Mahurat will take place from 9:32 PM on October 6 to 6:17 AM on October 7. Parigha Yoga ends a little earlier at 5:31 am on the day of Parana.
The auspicious time of puja for Jitiya Vrat on October 6 is from 6:00 AM to 10:41 AM. Mothers who have to observe Jitiya Vrat should eat satvik food before fasting. Before starting Puja, they should take bath. The mothers observe the Nirjala fast on this date. During puja time, people worship the idol of Jimutavahana god with akshat, flowers, garlands, mustard oil, bamboo leaves etc. After this, mothers listen to the story of Jitiya Vrat for the long life and happiness of their children.
