Although Baa was the first contestant to be eliminated from Masterchef India 2023, she is already the internet’s favorite grandmother and everyone is excited for her to post more videos on her YouTube channel.
Age is just a number and 78-year-old Jamnadas Asher, who is known as Baa on the sets of Masterchef India 2023, proves the saying true in every possible way. Even though she may have been the first contestant to be eliminated from the show, her resilience and courage have won hearts across the country. She is an inspiration to anyone who uses age as an excuse.
Chefs Ranveer Brar, Vikas Khanna and Garima Arora were impressed with her skills from the first day she walked into the kitchen during the auditions. Vikas Khanna had also said on television while interacting with her that he was a “huge” fan of hers and Ranveer Brar had pointed out how much he enjoys watching her YouTube cooking videos which she publishes as “Gujju Ben Na Nasta”, a channel that has 175,000 subscribers.
Baa’s main inspiration to get on the show was her grandson who is her only close relative. She says: “My grandson saw the ad for Masterchef India and immediately came home and asked me if I was interested in applying. He told me it would be a great opportunity if I could get in. I liked the idea of it and thought about giving it a try. My grandson is my rock!”
The 78-year-old, who enjoys cooking Gujrati dishes, is not sad or angry that her journey in the show ended as quickly as it did. “I am very grateful for all the new things I learned on the show from the judges, as well as all the other contestants. I had never cooked the Western dishes I cooked on the show, so it was a great learning experience for me and I will try the recipe at home as well,” said Baa.
She added: “All the contestants and judges were very loving to me and appreciative of me all the time, even during the last printing challenge when I couldn’t finish my cake, Priyanka dropped her own cooking and came to help me, it meant a lot to me.”
Talking about her plans for the future, she said, “I will continue to post recipes on my YouTube channel, I have a lot of recipes and I want to share them with the world. I really like to cook and will continue to do so as long as I live.”
Baa is also invited to meet with the President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu and the home chef are absolutely thrilled and honored with this opportunity.
