The study claims that women prefer happy men for long-term relationships.
The findings also claim that success in long-term relationships is only achieved when the partner has a good sense of humor.
Relationships depend on several factors such as your appearance, personality, communication, trust and other things. Some prefer appearance over personality, while others go for stability. Now, a recent study by Mitch Brown, professor of psychology at the University of Arkansas’ Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences, tried to answer some questions about women’s likes and dislikes toward men in terms of relationships.
According to this research, women in short-term relationships prefer physically strong men, while women in long-term relationships generally prefer cheerful men. The findings also claim that success in long-term relationships is only achieved when the partner has a good sense of humor.
The women choose their partners based on the duration of the relationships. They have different preferences when it comes to men. The main objective of this study was to understand the factors that influence women’s social perception and interpersonal preferences. To understand preferences, researchers recruited 38 women and asked them to imagine being approached by one man at a bar.
After this, they were shown the photo of a man with a muscular torso and the less muscular man in a digitally edited photo. The women rated the muscular man higher in terms of a short-term relationship. However, for a long-term relationship, they still rated the muscular guys higher, but this time they weren’t so sure. The friendly, funny man was rated higher than the aggressively funny man for a long-term relationship.
According to Dr. Mitch Brown, who led the study, muscular men are attractive because women want to find a partner with strong genes and therefore associate muscles with being fit and healthy. However, in the long run, it is important to find a nice person who will support his family.
The research, published in the journal Personal Relationships, shows that women think strong men are more outgoing. However, sometimes they are more neurotic, which can be disappointing for the women.
