While several forms of arthritis exist, the most common types seen among patients today are osteoarthritis (OA) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Every year on October 12, World Arthritis Day is celebrated to raise awareness about this painful disease. We are investigating whether homeopathy can help to alleviate the pain associated with this disease that affects the joints. Homeopathy has been proven to provide great relief to patients who have had either osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis, or in rare cases both.
“Homoeopathic medication can help manage pain and improve joint mobility and also allow permanent recovery for the patients of osteoarthritis. The great advantage of homeopathic medication is that it can go on for a longer period of time without any side effects, until the patient makes a full recovery,” says Dr. Deeksha Katiyar, Consulting Physician, WeClinic, Homeopathy. In addition, with homeopathy it is also possible to treat constitutional abnormalities associated with osteoarthritis, that is, the hereditary tendency to develop osteoarthritis. Some of the commonly used homeopathic medicines for the treatment of osteoarthritis are: Bryonia, Rhus Tox, Arnica, Ruta, etc. In addition to these medicines, some other constitutional remedies such as Calcarea Carb, Sulfur and Tuberculinum also provide remarkable results. They not only control the pain and swelling, but also provide permanent relief from the underlying symptoms.
Another type of arthritis, namely rheumatoid arthritis, affects many people. RA IS an autoimmune disease that destroys the lining of joints, causing swelling in the joints and eventually deformities. “Homoeopathy offers a comprehensive treatment option for those suffering from RA, as homeopathy does not aim to provide short-term relief to patients with RA, but on the contrary, homeopathic medicines aim to completely cure and eradicate inflammation of joints. It takes a lot of time, of course, because the immune system regains its original shape so that it can recognize its own body as a friend and not an enemy,” adds Dr. Katiyar.
While it is believed that there is no cure for RA due to its autoimmune nature, we have clinically seen that a person can be fully recovered from RA through the regular intake of homeopathic medicines such as Actaea Spicata, Colchicum, Acid Benzoic, Rhus Tox, Bryonia Alba etc. In addition, it is important to follow a strict healthy lifestyle i.e. avoid the intake of a high protein diet, practice yoga, physical therapy and avoid trigger factors such as suddenly changing weather, etc.
