Bahujan Samaj Party’s Danish Ali has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking ‘appropriate punishment’ for Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Ramesh Bidhuri following his communal comments on the floor of Lok Sabha.
BSP MP Danish Ali on Friday called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make a public statement condemning Bidhuri’s behavior. In a letter to the prime minister, Ali also demanded that he be provided with greater security in view of an “escalation of threats” against him. Noting that Modi was not present in the House, Ali alleged that Bidhuri used “inappropriate language” while referring to the Prime Minister during his speech.
Bidhuri’s communal comments on Ali during a discussion on the success of the Chandrayaan-3 moon mission last Thursday created a furor, with opposition leaders calling for strict action against the BJP MP.
Opposition parties have rallied around Ali and attacked the BJP over the MP’s comments. Several members from Congress, TMC and NCP, among others, have written to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla demanding strictest action against Bidhuri.
The recent incident during the special session of Parliament was not just an attack on him as an individual, but an attack on the “own essence of democracy,” Ali said.
The BSP leader, as a Member of Parliament, expressed serious concern over the “recent shameful events” that occurred in the House of Representatives and called on the Prime Minister, as Leader of the House, to take note of the incident.
“As you must be aware, the situation has deteriorated significantly since September 21, 2023, casting a shadow on the parliamentary decorum and democratic functioning of our esteemed House, of which I am privileged to be a member,” Ali said in his speech. letter he released to the media.
“In your capacity as Leader of the House of Representatives and Prime Minister of our great nation, I trust that you will find it deeply concerning that Member of Parliament Ramesh Bidhuri has resorted to using unparliamentary and insulting language,” Ali said.

“I have objected to the use of such language in relation to the Prime Minister, even if it was in a quote. It is clear from the proceedings in the House that none of the members of the ruling party objected to my stand against the use of unparliamentary language against you,” Ali said.
“However, when I stood up and pointed out Bidhuri’s use of unparliamentary language towards you, he became agitated and reacted violently, possibly realizing his mistake. He began making very offensive attacks on me on the floor of the House to divert the attention of the House. House,” the BSP MP said.
“While the incident in question was condemned by most members of the House of Representatives, including some from the BJP, there have been continuous attempts since September 21 to tarnish my reputation and perpetuate false claims. Even though the events in the House of Representatives were clear to everyone, certain members chose to spread untruths about my behavior,” he said.
Ali said members like BJP MP Nishikant Dubey have even gone to the extent of spreading ‘absolute falsehoods’ against him by claiming that he made certain comments that provoked Bidhuri, when it is clear that those comments were made by the BJP lawmaker themselves were made during his speech. .
“In addition to Bidhuri’s threat to confront me outside Parliament, in a manner more akin to a street brawl than a parliamentary setting, certain unknown persons are continuously sending me threatening and menacing messages,” Ali said in his letter to the Prime Minister.
Ali said he believes that as Leader of the House of Representatives in Lok Sabha, it is the Prime Minister’s responsibility to ensure freedom of expression and well-being of all MPs, irrespective of their political affiliations.
Danish Ali’s four demands for Prime Minister Modi
In his letter, Ali made a series of demands to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, including that he make a public statement from his office condemning such behavior and reaffirming the commitment to maintaining the highest standards of parliamentary procedures.
He also demanded that Bidhuri’s “reprehensible conduct” should be accounted for at the earliest and that the BJP MP should be “appropriately punished” so that no one can ever repeat such an act in the House of Representatives.
