New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said a global crisis of confidence due to ongoing conflict will have to be overcome for peace and economic stability, and urged lawmakers worldwide to work together in the fight against terrorism.
Speaking at the inauguration of the ninth G20 Parliamentary Speakers Summit in the capital, Modi said a divided world cannot provide solutions to the challenges facing humanity and there is an urgent need for broader participation in global decision-making.
“I have always believed that governments are formed by the majority, but the country is governed by consensus. Our parliaments and this P20 forum can also strengthen this sentiment,” the Prime Minister said. Adding efforts to improve this world through debate and deliberation will certainly be successful.
The global economy, which has been slowing, has been hit by the war in Ukraine and the recent conflict in the Middle East between Israel and Hamas, which has led to price volatility and commodity shortages.
“This is the time of peace and brotherhood, a time to move forward together. This is a time for growth and well-being for all. We must overcome the global crisis of confidence and move forward with people-centered thinking,” he said.
“We must look at the world in the spirit of One Earth, One Family, One Future,” he said, adding that the importance of broader participation in global decision-making was behind the proposal to include the African Union in the G20. .
At the G20 Leaders’ Summit held in New Delhi last month, the African Union was granted permanent membership of the Group of the World’s 20 largest economies (G20).
Under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, India has emerged as a prominent advocate of the Global South, highlighting the country’s problems, difficulties and ambitions.
