Rajya Sabha MP and veteran Congress leader Kapil Sibal on Friday criticized Prime Minister Modi, saying Sanatani does not celebrate when soldiers are tortured.
This comes after Prime Minister Modi, while addressing a public meeting in Madhya Pradesh’s Bina on Thursday, said the opposition is planning to destroy the sanatana dharma and attack the country’s age-old tradition.
Sibal went to X and said, “Sanatan Dharma means:
eternal religion
The virtues of Sanātanī include:
Honesty
Do not injure living beings
Purity
Charity
Generosity
Patience
Asceticism
Good will
Qualities that Hindutva and its Bhakts lack
A Sanātanī does not celebrate when soldiers are being tortured!”
Earlier on Wednesday, four security personnel were killed in the clash in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district. The incident has since sparked widespread protests in the Valley, with many raising slogans against Pakistan and burning posters of the country’s flag.
Furthermore, Sibal slammed Modi for comments on ‘Sanatana’ and said that Sanātanī’s virtues include honesty and not hurting living beings.
The controversy arose on September 3 when Udhayanidhi Stalin, son of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, drew a comparison between Sanatana Dharma and diseases like dengue and malaria.

He called for the eradication of these practices while addressing a conference of Tamil Nadu Progressive Writers in Chennai. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) interpreted his statements as advocating the ‘genocide’ of Hindus, while the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) rejected these allegations, claiming that Udhayanidhi was actually speaking out against caste practices deeply entrenched in age-old orthodox beliefs. .
Subsequently, the First Information Reports (FIRs) were filed in Rampur against Udhayanidhi and Karnataka minister Priyank Kharge, who had defended him. Furthermore, certain factions have even threatened physical violence in response to the controversy.

Earlier on Wednesday, Kapil Sibal said on Wednesday that Governor RN Ravi is continuing their political agenda.
“First I would like to ask Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah if they know what Governor RN Ravi is doing there? I know you know. Because there has never been a dispute over religion in Tamil Nadu before. The community rules there and runs the government. The purpose of sending RN Ravi is to create a dispute based on religion. You are the culprits who raise these kinds of issues. The governor is advancing their political agenda,” Sibal shared. ANI.
