Aditya-L1 mission update: ISRO chief S Somnath announced that the Lagrangian L1 point insertion of the Aditya L1 mission will take place on January 6, 2024. However, the ISRO chief added that the time for the insertion of L1 points is yet to be determined.
“The L1 point insertion of Aditya L1 will take place on January 6, 2024, but the time has not yet been decided…,” he said.
Earlier on Friday, Somanath, on the sidelines of the Bharatiya Vigyan Sammelan organized by Vijnana Bharati, an NGO committed to popularizing science, had told the media: “When it reaches the L1 point, we have to restart so it does that. don't go any further. It will go to that point, and once it reaches that point, it will revolve around it and get stuck at L1,” as quoted by PTI.
India's first solar mission, launched from Sriharikota on September 2, will perform a major maneuver in reaching L1. This maneuver will ensure its stable orbit, allowing a continuous and in-depth study of the Sun. Once Aditya-L1 reaches its destination, it will help measure various events on the Sun over the next five years.
“Once it is successfully placed at L1 point, it will remain there for the next five years and collect all the data which is very important not only for India but for the entire world. The data will be very useful in understanding the dynamics of the world. The sun and how it affects our lives,” the ISRO chief said.
He further said, It is very important how India is going to become a technologically powerful country. ISRO has made a plan to build an Indian space station called 'Bharatiya space station' during the 'Amrit Kaal' as per the instructions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Somanath said.
“In the space sector, we are seeing an emergence of new actors… We are going to support, encourage and build the economy around the new generation,” he said, adding that India cannot become a leader in everything but it must focus on concentrate on the sectors where this is possible.
