NASA video sheds light on how people can enjoy the alignment of the Moon, Saturn and Mars before sunrise on May 3. On May 23, people can enjoy the sight of the bright red star Antares during the night of the full moon. Those living on the East Coast of the US can also see the moon pass in front of Antares in an event called occultation. The moon will move in its orbit, first hiding and then revealing Antares.
“On May 3, grab your morning coffee and get out before sunrise to see the moon, Saturn and Mars lined up. On May 23, the full moon will appear close to the bright red star Antares. If you are on the East Coast of the US, you will see the moon pass in front of Antares in an event called occultation,” NASA wrote in its post.
Meteor shower on May 5
NASA also explained that the moon will move in its orbit, first hiding and then revealing Antares. Earth crosses the orbit of Halley's Comet twice a year, the first time in May and the next time in October. This gives people the opportunity to enjoy the meteor shower, as Halley's path is a stream of small rock and dust grains, which will bring the eta Aquariid meteor shower into the night sky around May 5.
