A true veteran of the game, Ajinkya Rahane has boosted his stock for consistent performance in the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) for Chennai Super Kings. While it has been a while since Rahane played for the Indian national team, his IPL form could see him earn a Test squad recall for the upcoming World Test Championship final against Australia. With Shreyas Iyer injured, sources from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) informed DailyExpertNews that Rahane could be considered for a return.
It was in January last year that Rahane last played for the Indian team in a test match. His performance came against South Africa at Newlands. Since then, the experienced hitter has been sidelined due to poor form.
Although T20 and Test Cricket face each other, Rahane’s heroics for CSK seem to have impressed BCCI bosses who are considering his return for the WTC final.
So far in the 16th edition of IPL, Rahane has scored 209 runs with an average of 52.25 and a pass rate of 199.04. In a recent press conference, the right-handed hitter also talked about impressing.
Speaking of a possible return to India, Rahane said he doesn’t think too much about what’s not in his hands and just wants to focus on doing good for Chennai.
“I just want to keep hitting the same way, keep contributing to the team, not thinking too much about myself, the results and the outcome. If I do that I will be very happy,” he said.
Rahane also said that he remains hungry to do well for his team whether it is while playing for his franchise in the IPL or India.
“Intent for me is about doing well for the team, whether I’m playing for CSK or the Indian team. Keep thinking about the team instead of yourself, your own result or the result.
“Intention is about how much you want to do well for your team, and how badly you feel about your team. So that’s my only thing,” he concluded.
The final of the World Test Championship will be held between India and Australia from June 7-11 at the Oval in London.
