The bugle of the 2023 Cricket World Cup has sounded. The competing teams have announced their rosters for the mega-event from October 5 to 19 in India. Australian legend Glenn McGrath needs to know what it’s like to be world champion. Glenn McGrath was part of the Australian team that won three successive World Cup trophies: the 1999 Cricket World Cup, the 2003 Cricket World Cup and the 2007 Cricket World Cup. While his pedigree on the cricket field is exemplary, he also has other expertise. In a recent video posted by Glenn MacGrath, he was seen at his home handling a python.
“After much encouragement and support from @saraleonmcgrath, all three Coastal Carpet Pythons in the home were safely released into the bush #carpetpython #snakecatcher #notthebestfootwear,” he captioned the post.
Cricket Australia has announced its Cricket World Cup 2023 squad, which will be managed by Pat Cummins. Senior players like Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, David Warner, Glenn Maxwell, etc. were all picked, but there was no room for Marnus Labuschagne. Even middle class big hitter Tim David couldn’t find a spot on the roster. Compared to the 18-member provisional squad Australia had previously announced, all-rounder Aaron Hardie, pacer Nathan Ellis and young spinner Tanveer Sangha were the missing players.
Looking at the squad, it’s clear that pacemaker Sean Abbott is preferred to Nathan Ellis for the last spot in the squad as backup pacemaker. The spider pair of Ashton Agar and Adam Zampa got the nod from the selectors.
Alex Carey and Josh Inglis are the two wicketkeeper-batters in the side. There is no doubt that Carey will be first choice after his superlative performance at the last Cricket World Cup in England and Wales in 2019.
“Pat Cummins, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc and Glenn Maxwell are on track with their return to fixtures. They are all well placed to get back online in the coming weeks and potentially for selection in the upcoming series against India,” said Bailey.
“There are still eight one-day matches to be played in South Africa and India before the final squad will be announced. They will be followed by two friendlies for the Cricket World Cup, which will provide plenty of opportunity to build on the tournament.”
