After an early exit from the ongoing All England Open on Thursday, top Indian shuttler PV Sindhu feels she should have done better and will try to bounce back by working on her mistakes. Sindhu suffered a defeat at the hands of reigning world champion An Se Young of the Republic of Korea in the second round of the women's singles. The two-time Olympic medalist lost to the Korean shuttler 21-19, 21-11 in the round of 16 of the BWF Super 1000 event. Overall, this was Sindhu's seventh defeat against An Se Young in the same number of matches.
After the match, Sindhu stated that she played better in the first game but gave away a huge lead in the second game due to many unforced errors.
“Well I think I should have done a bit better, the first game was quite good. I gave away two or three points but then I got close, but in the second game I gave her a huge lead, there were a lot casual I have to work on my mistakes and come back stronger,” said Sindhu as quoted by the Badminton Association of India (BAI).
Ranked 11th in the badminton rankings, Sindhu exerted control by making the most of the court at the start of the first game, allowing her to take a 4-1 lead. However, An Se Young quickly came back to equalize at 4-4 and then took an 11-8 lead halfway through the match.
The Korean shuttler handled Sindhu's aggressive play effortlessly by relying on blocks and precise placement, allowing her to take a six-point lead at 17-11.
Former world champion Sindhu pulled off some impressive strikes to reduce the deficit to just one point at 20-19. But An Se Young managed to finish the match and take one lead in the match.
She then greeted her opponent An Se Young and felt she should have been more patient as she made easy mistakes that allowed the Korean shuttler to run away with the game.
“She's obviously the top player now. But I should have been a lot more patient, I made unforced errors. There were easy mistakes. You know, in the first game I was fine, but then I got closer. But I think I can beat her gave a huge lead in the second set, and then I made receiving errors.”
In the second game, Sindhu managed to get the first few points. However, Se Young's ability to effortlessly shift through gears proved to be a challenge that Sindhu could not overcome. The deficit proved to be too big after the break halfway through the match and they eventually lost the match in 41 minutes.
