National record holder long jumper Jeswin Aldrin finished a disappointing 13th with an effort of 7.69 meters at the World Indoor Athletics Championships in Glasgow on Saturday. The 22-year-old, who led the world for a few months in 2023 with his jump of 8.42 meters, jumped 7.69 meters in his first attempt but made a mistake on the next two. He was unable to rank among the top eight after three attempts and was thus eliminated, along with eight other competitors. The best eight long jumpers may make three more attempts after three rounds.
Reigning Olympic and world champion Miltiadis Tentoglou of Greece won gold with a best jump of 8.22m, while 19-year-old Mattia Furlani (8.22m) of Italy and Carey McLeod (8.21m) of Jamaica came second and third respectively became.
Aldrin has competed in three other international events in the past month and had recorded 7.70m, 7.74m and 7.83m respectively. Last year he finished eighth at the Hangzhou Asian Games.
National record holder triple jumper Praveen Chitravel is also participating in the world indoor showpiece.
