The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on Tuesday the appointment of Paddy Upton as a mental conditioning coach. BCCI’s official Twitter handle posted a photo of Upton in Port of Spain. “Say hello to our mental conditioning coach, Mr. Paddy Upton,” BCCI tweeted. It is important to note that Upton was part of the support staff of the 2011 World Cup winning team in India.

Earlier, PTI news agency had reported that Upton has been awarded a short-term contract and will be the latest addition to Rahul Dravid’s team of support staff.
Upton was first roped in by former India coach Gary Kirsten when he took charge of the senior national team in 2008 and they forged a successful partnership until 2011.
Upton has since been associated with several IPL teams and has worked with Dravid at Rajasthan Royals.
It is only understandable that Dravid approached Upton as he was familiar with his way of working which had worked wonders for the Indian team over the past decade.
Upton was the Rajasthan Royals ‘team catalyst’ during the last IPL.
With India on a hectic schedule to enter the T20 World Cup, starting with the Pakistan match in Melbourne on October 23, Dravid might have understood the need for a man known as a motivator who also helps players to to cope with the rigors of international cricket.
