Ravichandran Ashwin is arguably one of the best all-rounders India has ever had. Despite his heroics in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia earlier this year, he was not named in the Playing XI against the same opponent for the World Test Championship final at The Oval. However, Ashwin appeared to be off the hook as the 36-year-old spinner is currently playing in the ongoing 2023 Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) for the Dindigul Dragons and dragged his side to victory over Ba11sy Trichy on Wednesday.
During the fourth over of Trichy’s innings, Ashwin shunned everyone in style when he dismissed Daryl Ferrario for 5. Ferrario failed to judge the pitch as it hit his pads and signaled the on-field umpire. Notably, it was Ashwin’s second appearance of the tournament and he made a remarkable entry.

– Traveled to UK for WTC but didn’t get the chance.

Aside from this, Ashwin also found himself in controversy during the game when he decided to review a no-away decision for the second time on the same ball after the third umpire overturned the on-field umpire’s decision following the batter’s DRS. judgement.
Bowling to R Rajkumar, Ashwin got the batsman trapped behind the stumps by the wicket-keeper. The batter decided to immediately review the call and the third umpire reversed the decision, despite there being a huge spike as the ball passed the bat.
Probably thinking the peak was from the moment the bat hit the ground, the third umpire flashed no-out on the big screen.
A stunned Ashwin decided to reconsider the decision again by signaling DRS. Ashwin’s act even sparked a debate with the on-field umpires. The third referee repeated the sequence of events once more to confirm whether his decision was correct. The decision was not long in coming.
As for the match, Ashwin’s Dinigul won the match despite the DRS controversy, securing a six-wicket win against Trichy. Ashwin’s men were given a target of 121 runs to chase. They managed to reach the target in just 14.5 overs.
