The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has declared Rishabh Pant fully fit for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Pant, who has been undergoing rehabilitation for 14 months, had started practicing ahead of the new IPL season and has now got the nod to join the Delhi Capitals camp. However, in its release, the BCCI confirmed that pace bowlers Mohammed Shami and Prasidh Krishna will not be able to participate in the T20 competition this season.
Pant had met with a near-fatal car accident in December 2022 and has been completely out of cricket action since then. The wicketkeeper-batsman started playing cricket a few months ago. He joined the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru (NCA) and worked rigorously on his fitness to be available for IPL.
The BCCI release read:
Rishabh Pants:After undergoing an extensive rehabilitation and recovery process of 14 months, following a life-threatening road accident on December 30, 2022, near Roorkee, Uttarakhand, Rishabh Pant has now been declared fit as a wicketkeeper-batsman for the upcoming TATA IPL 2024.
Prasidh Krishna: The fast bowler underwent surgery on his left proximal quadriceps tendon on February 23, 2024. He is currently being monitored by the BCCI Medical Team and will soon resume rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy. He will not be able to participate in the upcoming TATA IPL 2024.
Mohd Shami:The fast bowler successfully underwent surgery on February 26, 2024 for his right heel problem. He is currently being monitored by BCCI's medical team and has been ruled out of the upcoming TATA IPL 2024.
As for Prasidh and Shami, the pace duo's absence in the 2024 IPL season could deal a major blow to their chances of representing the Indian team in the T20 World Cup that will take place right after the conclusion of the T20 competition.
