Cricket's 'El Clasico', between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings, belonged to the Yellow Army on Sunday. The 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) clash saw Ruturaj Gaikwad's men emerge triumphant despite Rohit Sharma's century. The Hitman, who scored a 61-ball hundred, could not take his team over the line but did reach his century in the last half of the match. But realizing that even his hundred would not be enough to get the Mumbai Indians over the line, Rohit had a subdued celebration. (IPL 2024 points table)
After securing his ton with a boundary, Rohit even refused to raise his bat in celebration and only had a handshake with teammate Mohammad Nabi at the other end of the field. Here's the video:

Rohit, who opened the batting alongside Ishan Kishan, remained unbeaten on 105 off 63 deliveries as CSK secured a 20-run win. Despite the match resulting in a defeat for MI, fans and pundits were all praises for Rohit.
Australian legend Brett Lee even praised Rohit's 'selfless act' after seeing how the former franchise captain refused to even celebrate his centenary.
“Rohit Sharma scored a brilliant hundred. The fact that he went there, he also scored at a good clip. I liked it when he scored his hundred, he didn't even raise his bat. For me, it shows that the win means more then his personal milestone.
“You know, he played with real intent from ball one. He played shots all over the ground, but then the power and finesse came into play. 105 not off 63 balls with 11 fours and 5 sixes, but alas, you You can't do everything alone,” Lee said in Jio Cinema.
It was Mumbai Indians' fourth defeat in six matches. The result places the franchise 8th in the 10-team points table. While hope is not lost in terms of qualifying for the play-offs, MI needs to put together a series of wins to remain eligible for the next round.
