Following India’s crushing nine-wicket defeat to Australia in the third Test at Indore, the International Cricket Council (ICC) declared the pitch used for the match as “poor” according to the ICC Pitch and Outfield Monitoring Process. The pitch was widely criticized by pundits for its uneven pace and bounce on offer with 30 wickets falling in just two days. When asked about ICC’s on-field verdict, Australian head coach Andrew McDonald took a look at Team India.
McDonald said while the players do their job by playing, the ICC does by judging each roll.
“I mean our job is to play on the pitch. So whatever they roll up, our job is to fix what’s in front of us. So that’s for others to work through. I mean the ICC is…yeah they rate every pitch and they gave this one a bad one So you know we don’t talk if they give a good rating so it’s up to them how they want to navigate through that So the conditions were extreme I think they have been extreme for all three exhibition games,” McDonald said at a press conference on Saturday.
Under the ICC Pitch and Outfield Monitoring Process, any venue can be suspended if it receives five or more penalty points from the Cricket Board over a consecutive five-year period.
Speaking of match, Australia made a strong comeback to the series by beating India by 9 wickets to cut their four Test series deficit to 1-2.
