The iPhone 15 Pro lineup is expected to launch later this year. The series is expected to include a basic iPhone 15, an iPhone 15 Plus, an iPhone 15 Pro and a high-end iPhone 15 Pro Max, which could also carry the name iPhone 15 Ultra. It was previously reported that the Pro models were equipped with solid-state haptic volume buttons that replace the traditional buttons. However, multiple reports later suggested that Apple will keep the traditional two-button volume control design. A new report suggests the same thing, citing new CAD rendering leaks.
According to a report from 9to5Mac, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models will ship with the traditional volume buttons instead of the previously speculated single solid-state haptic button. The change is attributed to production problems. To integrate the new buttons, Apple would have to install three new haptic motors into the iPhone hardware, and that would ultimately slow down the production timeline, the report says.
Recent reports suggested that the iPhone 15 Pro models of Apple’s upcoming flagship smartphone series will retain the two-button volume rocker design. Today’s report supports that claim. The CAD files in the report also show a new mute button, which is expected to be similar to the customizable Action button on the Apple Watch Ultra. This button will reportedly only be present in the Pro variants, while the non-Pro models would retain the mute switch.
The report adds that the camera bumps on the iPhone 15 Pro models are still expected to be significant, but not as exaggerated as previous leaks have suggested. The Pro Max model also appears to have a relatively larger camera bump, confirming previous reports that the phone is equipped with periscope lenses with up to 5-6x optical zoom.
Aside from the changes to the camera module and volume rocker, the new CAD renders also show very thin bezels and a USB Type-C port on the bottom, which was speculated to be on the iPhone 15 series since Apple agreed to it to comply with a European Union law. However, the lineup will reportedly come with company-certified cables that guarantee maximum charging and transfer speeds. The frames of the iPhone 15 Pro handsets also look rounder than the current iPhone 14 series.
