CEO of Alphabet Inc. Sundar Pichai said in an interview with The Circuit that artificial intelligence has been a key focus for the tech giant since 2016, despite missing the big chatbot moment. Pichai seemed unperturbed.
The CEO told The Circuit: “We weren't the first company to search. We weren't the first company to email. We weren't the first company to build a browser… So I look at this AI as we are in as early a stage as possible”.

Pichai admitted that there were errors regarding Gemini's image generation feature, saying: “From the beginning, we are retraining these models… once it is done, we will pass it on to the people.”
Pichai revealed that the feature will be re-released in a few weeks.
Pichai will share a vision for the company's future next week at Google I/O, the company's annual developer conference.

Furthermore, Pichai was confronted with a question about his leadership style. Amid all the strategic challenges Alphabet faces, several former and current employees have criticized Pichai for being “too cautious and consensus-oriented.”
Pichai responded saying, “I think the bigger the company, the fewer consequences you take, but they have to be clear and you have to point them out to the whole company.”

Alphabet's CEO underscored the importance of building consensus, saying “…it allows you to have maximum impact on those decisions.”

Last month, Google also fired dozens of engineers who protested the company's cloud contract with the Israeli government, in what Pichai described as an unacceptable disruption to daily operations. “It has nothing to do with the issue or topic they are discussing. It's about the behavior and the way they've gone about it,” he says. “I believe that, especially right now with AI, the opportunities we have in front of us are enormous, but our mission really needs to be addressed be spent.”
