Apple CEO Tim Cook expressed satisfaction over India's growing developer community and said the South Asian country has become a key market for global tech giants, with a growing developer base attracting a lot of attention, news agency ANI reported on Saturday.
“We are very happy that there is a rapidly growing base of developers in India. Apple is working on the entire ecosystem, from developer to market to operations, the whole thing,” ANI quoted a message from Apple's CEO and echoed twitter by MoS Electronics and Technology, Rajeev Chandrasekhar. The report further added that the country has become a top priority for global technology companies due to its large talent pool, low operating costs and stable supply chain environment.
Cook applauded Apple India's double-digit sales growth and described India as an “incredibly exciting market”, highlighting its significance as a key focus area for the company.
Cook said Apple achieved record sales in India for the quarter ending March 2024, despite a 4% decline in total revenue and a 10% decline in iPhone sales from the previous year.
“We grew strongly by double digits, and we were very, very happy with that. It was a new revenue record in the March quarter for us. As you know, and as I've said before, I see it as an incredibly exciting period of time.” market, and it is a key focus for us,” ANI quoted Cook on Apple's performance in India.
Emphasizing the strategic importance of local production in maintaining competitiveness, Cook said: “From a pragmatic point of view, you have to produce there (India) to be competitive, and so, yes, from that point of view the two things are linked. But there are both operational issues going on and we need to go to market and take initiatives.”
It is important to note that in this ever-evolving era of global geopolitical power, India has emerged as a beacon for global technology companies. The sales growth rates of major technology giants such as Apple, Microsoft and Meta in India exceeded their global expansion rates last year.
Apple supported more than one million developer jobs in India by 2023, with plans for further expansion.
