New Delhi:
A man in Delhi has been arrested for allegedly kidnapping and sexually harassing an eight-year-old girl. Police said the man subjected her to hours of brutality after the kidnapping. The ordeal left her body scarred in several places by injuries caused by the perpetrator's teeth.
The child was abducted from Kotla Mubarakpur area on May 6 and rescued by police almost 24 hours later.
The child was rushed to hospital following the incident, where she is currently receiving treatment. Although her physical condition is stable, she continues to battle the psychological aftermath of the traumatic experience. She comes from Nepal and only recognizes her mother in the family.
The suspect has been identified as Arjun alias Mohammed Umar and is said to have committed similar heinous acts in the past. On the afternoon of May 6, he allegedly lured the girl to his residence in the dimly lit alleys of Andheria Mod. Immediate action by the authorities led to the rescue of the girl and the subsequent arrest of the suspect.
According to police sources, the suspect shows signs of psychopathic nature and leads a lonely life. CCTV footage has proven to be crucial evidence in the case and provides crucial clues for the investigation.
“We have checked CCTV footage of DTC buses to identify the suspect. The details of the kidnapped girl have been uploaded on ZIPNET (the network system of police of neighboring states),” he said. Police arrested Umar from Andheria Mod slum on Tuesday, the girl was rescued,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Ankit Chauhan.
During interrogation, Umar confessed to the crime and revealed his motive behind the kidnapping. “Umar revealed that he makes small toys out of glass and had come to Kotla to collect glass where he saw the girl playing and kidnapped her,” the DCP said.
