New Delhi:
The Aam Aadmi Party today alleged that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is being pushed to a “slow death” in Tihar jail by denying him insulin and consultation with his doctor.
Arvind Kejriwal, who has type 2 diabetes, has requested insulin and a video conference with his doctor, but his requests have been rejected by the prison administration, party spokesperson Saurabh Bharadwaj said at a press conference.
“I want to say with full responsibility that there is a conspiracy going on for the slow death of Arvind Kejriwal,” alleged Saurabh Bharadwaj, citing blood sugar readings of the chief minister in jail.
He also slammed the Tihar government, BJP, Center and Delhi LG for allegedly denying Kejriwal insulin and said the Delhi Chief Minister was suffering from diabetes for the past 20 to 22 years.
On Friday, Senior Advocate of the Prime Minister's Council Abhishek Singhvi said Kejriwal had not been given insulin to control his blood sugar levels since his arrest. He called it “shocking” and “alarming.”
The ED had alleged in court on Thursday that Kejriwal ate high-sugar foods like mangoes and sweets every day despite having type 2 diabetes, to create grounds for medical bail.
However, Mer Kejriwal refuted the ED's claims by claiming before the court that the food he consumed was in accordance with the diet plan prepared by his doctor.
“Of the 48 meals sent from home, only three times were mangoes…,” Singhvi told the court.
Mr Bharadwaj said Mr Kejriwal had been given permission by the court to use a machine in prison to monitor his daily blood sugar levels.
“On the whole, it was a conspiracy to finish off Mr. Kejriwal so that his multiple organ damage is sustained and when he comes out of jail after 2 to 4 months, he goes for treatment of kidneys, heart and other organs,” said Saurabh Bharadwaj, who holds the portfolio of healthcare in the Delhi government.
