New Delhi:
Delhi and parts of northern India remain shrouded in dense fog and reduced visibility is posing a challenge to flights and trains connecting the national capital with the rest of the country. Schools will also open in the city today after a two-week winter break, although times will be limited due to the severe cold.
Delhi airport has issued a dense fog warning as thousands of passengers patiently wait for their flights. Flyers have been asked to stay updated on flight details as delays on foggy mornings are common.
As many as 110 flights were delayed and 79 flights canceled at Delhi airport today, flight tracker website flightradar24 revealed this morning, with an average delay of about an hour.
Major airlines such as IndiGo, SpiceJet and Vistara say bad weather conditions in Delhi and Kolkata could impact flights.
Air quality has improved from 'severe' to 'very poor' category.
A similar fog condition disrupted flight and train services in Delhi yesterday with no visibility reported in the airport area. The minimum temperature was 7 degrees. The first cold wave day of the season was on Friday, when temperatures dropped to 3.9 degrees Celsius. Saturday was the coldest night with 3 degrees.
