Noida:
A domestic help working in a group housing society near Noida was bitten by a dog, prompting a police case against the pet owner for negligence on Wednesday.
The incident took place around 5 pm at Galaxy Royal Society in Gaur City 2 under Bisrakh Police Station limits, they said.
The 34-year-old domestic helper was bitten by a German shepherd dog while waiting on the 18th floor gallery of Tower B of the association where she worked, according to her husband's complaint.
The main door of the adjacent apartment was ajar and the dog came out of the house, jumped the housekeeper and left her seriously injured before the pet owner got the dog under control.
“Two months ago, a similar incident had occurred with a maintenance worker of the association and with the same dog,” the complainant alleged, urging police to take “stern action” in the context of a “criminal case” against the owner of the German shepherd.
He also alleged that the pet owner had “intimidated” the domestic worker against filing a complaint with the police.
Bisrakh Police Station Superintendent Arvind Kumar said an FIR has been lodged against the dog's owner.
“The FIR has been registered under Indian Penal Code sections 289 (negligent conduct in relation to animals), 504 (intentional provocation to breach the peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation),” Kumar told PTI.
The official said an investigation into the matter is ongoing and while the bailable offense can be prosecuted, it could carry a prison sentence or a fine, or both.
