Both Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan were overlooked when the BCCI announced the central contracts for the 2023-24 season. The stupidity gave rise to several speculations. Considering that the board has strongly put forward its mandate that players should be available for domestic cricket if they are fit and not on national duty, many media reports claimed that the duo's unavailability during their state's respective domestic matches has led to their impeachment led. Although Iyer played the semi-final and final match of the Ranji Trophy for Mumbai, both matches took place long after the BCCI announced the central contracts.
While there has been a lot of speculation about the possible reasons that could have led to the ouster of the two players, former India batsman Robin Uthappa said he wants to know “the truth”. He shared his views while speaking to Hindustan Times.
“I think that we as individuals and perhaps even today, see myself on your side of the table as well. As a broadcaster, I also want to know answers. I also want to know what the truth is. That said, we won don't know what the truth is unless it is spoken by the stakeholders of this piece, which is the players themselves and those involved with the players themselves, which are the captain, the coaches and the support staff,” said Uthappa .
“I think we'll just continue to speculate about it until we hear from these players in particular or from the selectors in particular. And I think we can all speculate all we want. But for me, I would like to reserve until I really know for sure what happened and what happened,” he added.
