Bangalore:
The 32-year-old man who allegedly beheaded his 16-year-old fiancée in Madikeri and fled with her severed head was found dead on Friday, Karnataka police said.
Prakash's body was found at Hammiyala village, located in Madikeri taluka of Kodagu district, police said, adding that initial reports indicate suicide.
The hunt for the girl's head is still ongoing, according to police.
The man was to marry Meena, who had recently cleared her Class 10 exams. When the news reached the Child Welfare Department, officials reached the venue and ordered the families to stop the ceremony as the girl was a minor and her marriage could attract a case under the POCSO and Child Marriage Acts.
After the families were counseled, they agreed to cancel the ceremony and postpone the wedding until Meena was 18 years old.
However, the man didn't seem to agree. He stormed into the teen's home and attacked her parents, police said. He kicked her father and assaulted her mother with a sharp object. He then dragged the girl about 100 yards from the house and allegedly beheaded her before fleeing.
The victim's father and mother were admitted to a hospital.
