Today a horse galloped straight into the grounds of the Taj Mahal – you would think you would see one of the wonders of the world or perhaps have a book written about its feat, similar to the famous 'A Horse Walks into a Bar' (a novel by Israeli author David Grossman). While the motive behind the action is and would remain a mystery, tourists were certainly surprised by the unusual security breach.
The decorated horse first tried to jump over the barricades, but when that failed, it broke through. “No one is hurt because there were not many tourists at the time,” said a witness. The commotion unfolded near the monument's western gate. After considerable effort, the horse was finally brought under control.
Confused and scared, tourists cleared the road when they noticed the animal without a stable man. It belongs to Rajesh Kumar, who walked away with his horse when asked to comment on the incident.
Horses are a common sight at the Taj Mahal, where they pull tongas – which were a traditional mode of transport in India before the advent of motor vehicles – from the parking lot to the security gates of the historic site.
